Dallas Neighborhood Profile: Highland Park

highland-parkHighland Park is well known for its exceptional quality of living.  The fantastic homes are surrounded by lush parks, top quality public schools, and high end shopping.  Highland Park received its name because it was located on higher land that overlooked downtown Dallas.

Highland Park is locates approximately five miles north of downtown Dallas.  Population is 8,800, 75% of which are professionals with a baccalaureate degree or higher.

The Beverly Hills of North Texas

Wilbur David Cook, who also planned Beverly Hills, was the landscape designer hired to plan Highland Park.  In the original plan, 20% of the land was designated as parks.

Highland Park, as it is known today, was purchased by the Philadelphia Place Land Association for a total of $500,000 in 1889.  In 1906 John Armstrong invested money to develop the land under the name of Highland Park.
Opened in 1931, Highland Park Village is the first shopping center in America and is a National Historic Landmark.
