Terdema Ussery
The breakfast, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday at the Fairmont Dallas, will also celebrate the council’s Community Impact Initiatives. Council members donated more than $445,000 in pro bono technical assistance and $300,000 in cash to agencies in four areas: housing, economic development, education and the environment.
Ussery’s speech is entitled “Inspiring Mind: The Importance of Making Personal Commitment.”
Real Estate Council president Michelle Corson noted that Ussery grew up in the Watts section of South Central Los Angeles.
After a junior high school teacher encouraged him to transfer to an academically challenging school in Ojai, Calif., he was accepted to Princeton University, “the college I had dreamed about but never imagined attending,” Ussery said.
That teacher’s encouragement changed his life, and studying at Princeton instilled confidence and enabled him to go on to graduate school at Harvard University and law school at the University of California at Berkeley.
Ernst & Young, Haynes and Boone LLP and Stewart Title are sponsoring the breakfast, which costs $75 in advance or $85 at the door. Visit www.recouncil.com or call 214-692-3600.
